A realization. Those posts about Human Domestication Guide that are like “I see why people think this is hot, but they keep trying to frame it as less fucked-up than it really is, and that creeps me out.” That’s how I feel about Gushing Over Magical Girls.

People keep taking stories that go “monsters bigger than you don’t care about you and might kill you by accident” and adapting them into “monsters bigger than you want to Get You.” I think the same impulse is behind all those books and games where evil rich people torture poor people to death. It’s more flattering to think monsters/rich people hate you than to think they don’t care one way or another whether you live or die.
