I see Tumblr post after Tumblr post about how stories should be analyzed as things written by authors, and I’m over here going “If you think to analyze my stories as something written by an author, I’ve failed as a writer.” My ultimate goal is to create something that doesn’t feel like it had an author.

On the one hand, it seems intuitively obvious that the less a story makes you think about it in terms of being a thing written by an author, the better (barring meta fourth-wall brainfucks that are doing it on purpose, which go on a completely different scale)

On the other hand, the fact that a story was created by a person seems like a somewhat important thing to remember if one is doing analysis, otherwise you get callout posts about a story's villain like they're going around killing people in real life
