Arknights: talking up my own Blorbo
What I like about Mountain is that his tragedy feels like a math equation.
In a lot of ways, Mountain is the ideal hero. He's brave, he's strong, he's a natural leader, and he tries to do the right thing in a murky situation. He's well aware that he likes hurting people, but he's in control of that part of himself, avoiding harm to innocents.
What happens, then, when his better and worse sides are in agreement? He wants to avenge his family, and he wants to hurt the people who hurt him. He knows damn well this path will either kill him or destroy him, and he knows he could be happy if he turned away from revenge. But there's no possible outcome where he chooses mercy, because his traits and his history can't add up to that result.
