Annoyed at the aliens/vague "indigenous" metaphors in one of those stories on the Tor website. They destroy everything they've built every few generations, because they don't want to be chained to the past. They see the multicultural liberals/vague white metaphors as chained "Hoarders."
To put it another way, they think holding a tradition across generations and never letting it be broken means they're not chained.
