I’m not sure it’s possible to have a society where the right to die is accepted, and people who’re in pain aren’t forced to cling to life, without also having a society where disabled people are “encouraged” to commit suicide.

I worry about this too. I've been questioning my belief in legalized euthanasia for some time because of this.

Yeah, it's definitely complicated. (Especially since I'm disabled and also care very deeply about my right to kill myself, since at times it has been the only freedom available to me, and perversely the only thing keeping me alive.)

The way I see it, and it's absolutely awful, is that I don't live in a perfect world. In a perfect world, I'd have the resources available to me to live well. But I don't, and I have WAY more hope of getting the legal right to die than I do the right to live. The former clearly can be acheived in my lifetime; the latter is highly unlikely to.

So I want the right to die for the same reasons that my homelessness was treated with anti-depressants: it's cheaper and more easily attainable.
