The “Sujimon” stuff in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is the best examination I’ve seen of what Pokemon-style monster taming would look like if the monsters were as smart as you. This is a surreal thing to say, given that IW mocks everything uncomfortable or nonsensical about Pokemon and is actively hostile to how shonen anime approaches life lessons, but it’s true.
