I think some folks treat tolerance as, "I'm not slaughtering you in the street, so why are you making things hard for me?" But I don't think they're defining tolerance well.
I have grown to feel that belief is less important to me than respect and support, and they aren't the same things. I have at least one friend who I'm pretty sure thinks I'm just bonkers, but he still treats me with respect and listens to me and helps me out through hard times, and what more could I ask for in a friend?
