Just read a book where the hero thinks an evil witch killed his sister. In the end, many years and misadventures later, he returns to the house that haunts his nightmares, where it’s heavily implied another pair of children are about to get eaten.
He shoots and kills the witch. Then it turns out the witch raised his sister as another witch, so he shoots and kills her too while she begs him to recognize her. He rescues the children and adopts them. The end.
Fuck this. All that shit about “changing the story,” having multiple-page arguments with the narrator that you won’t just do what he says, and in the end, you end your sister’s story like that? Sure, she probably ate children, but you went through that whole period of carving out women’s hearts before you told the narrator you wouldn’t do it anymore.
