I’m getting angry at Octopath Traveler 2. Eight separate stories means eight separate character arcs in which the characters learn that helping each other is good, mass murder is bad, and a pure heart can overcome any foe. They talk and talk and talk about morality, yet they haven’t said a single thing that wasn’t an applause line. Don’t you have anything at all to say that would surprise me or make me think?

Preliminary thoughts on Octopath Traveler 2

I chose Osvald as my starting character, and I can’t imagine picking anyone else. He does three different types of elemental damage, he reduces the encounter rate while increasing experience gain, he can identify enemy weaknesses for free, his information-gathering is incredibly useful, and he starts conveniently close to a thief and a healer.

So much of this game is just being a colossal dick to random townspeople. You can literally steal candy from children.

Trying to keep the characters at roughly equal levels means the plot pacing is shot to hell and back. Don’t get too invested in that plot thread, because you have seven more to pursue before you get back to it.

Agnea feels out of place in this cast, because her goals have nothing to do with fighting people. She just happens to get dragged into fights while trying to become a really good dancer.

Eight sleeping gods, including a thief, a dancer, and a merchant. Eight player characters, including a thief, a dancer, and a merchant. I think I know where this is going.
