(no subject)

I might owe [profile] self_loving_vampire an apology for this one, but I think you could do something with the vampire as abuse cycle. They bite because they were bitten.

(If vampirism is abuse reproducing itself, and lycanthropy is abuse hiding in sweet promises, then what are zombies? Abuse that consumes you whole?)

Characters who deserve better source material: I’ve forgotten the source material

This was an incredibly forgettable vampire manga. The one interesting character was a trans female vampire who didn’t realize she was a vampire. She knew something had made her stronger and faster, and she could pass it on to other people by biting them, but she interpreted it as a divine blessing. She rallied other townsfolk in a movement to embrace the body and identity you want to have, with the “blessing” as a way to feel more comfortable in your own skin. Then she discovered that her followers were turning into monsters, and she was horrified and realized she’d made a grievous mistake. She ended up being the story’s primary representative of vampires as a group, and her continued survival and eventual happiness was its answer to the question of whether vampires could be saved.
