When the game Bully first came out, there was a lot of controversy over playing as a student who beats the living crap out of other students. I saw a news article arguing that the controversy was overblown. I specifically remember it saying that the game never gives you any weapons more lethal than a baseball bat.

A few months later, a student at the local high school was hospitalized after someone beat him with a baseball bat.

I’m not sure what my point is. That’s just something that always bothered me.

So, this whole push to reclaim darkfic as something that’s okay and healthy . . . How does that interact with all those posts various people make about “that creepy guy in my writing class”? What distinguishes the author whose dark themes are acceptable from the author whose dark themes make him a “creepy guy?” Because I have the strong suspicion the answer is gender. (Well, that and autism.)

My thoughts on the literary canon

You are never going to get me to read Homestuck. Ever. So if your argument is that I need to read the literary canon to understand everything it influenced . . . Well, everyone and their grandmother is now writing fiction influenced by Homestuck, and that’s not gonna make me read Homestuck.
