Sometimes it seems weird how little it takes to make someone decide harassment is good.

Back when Bad RPers Suck was still going, there was this one guy who posted about a Vampire LARPer he disliked, who he referred to as Family Man. Family Man was friends with roleplayers, but not really into roleplaying himself. He was just there to spend time with his friends. So the person writing the post systematically destroyed Family Man’s in-game standing and resources. This was presented like some kind of triumph against bad RPers, but I couldn’t figure out what Family Man did that was actually bad. He just hung out on the edges of the game and maintained his standing without playing much, and apparently, that was a punishable offense.

There’s this thing one of my mutuals does.

Mutual M: Nobody ever responds to my question about subject S. It’s a major social issue, and I ask what can be done to solve it, and people just avoid the issue.

Random stranger: I have an answer. [Something that sounds reasonable when I read it].

M: That’s not actually an answer, because [reasonable-sounding explanation of how the stranger is missing the point of the question.]

Other random stranger: My answer is [sounds reasonable].

M: That’s also not an answer, because [sounds reasonable].

Third random stranger: I have an answer. [Sounds reasonable].

M: Nobody is answering the question I asked! That’s not an answer, because [sounds reasonable].

All of the answers seem to me like they do answer the question, but when M explains why they don’t, it always makes sense why he would say that. But if all these different answers from all these different people don’t answer your question, maybe the problem is on your side.

Now that “good Drow” is such a cliche, I figure it’s time to lean into it. Have a whole city of free Drow who’ve shaken off Lolth’s influence, complete with cheerful, happy-go-lucky young Drow adventurers who’ve never known the constant betrayals of the Underdark. They still keep the dual scimitars, of course.

When I played Etrian Odyssey Untold, I thought there was a rather short jump from “we need to save the infected forest folk” to “the forest folk can’t be cured, so we need to end their misery” to “if we kill enough forest folk, we can cut off their wings to craft a new hat.” Well, Untold was a remake/rewrite of the first game. I just read TV Tropes:

“The first game's infamous 4th stratum directly references the genocide of the Ainu, with the names of the Forest Folk and their bosses being directly derived from Ainu culture. While this was intended as a satire of the colonialist themes common in fantasy fiction, the English version did a Dub Name Change for all of these except for the two bosses, possibly to lessen the unpleasant implications of the game making your party commit genocide against allegories for real-world indigenous peoples.”

What the fuck. I mean, I get that it’s essentially the same joke as The Iron Dream, but still, what the fuck.
