I think whether a coalition includes the empty set should depend on whether people who hate the empty set try to force it into or out of the coalition. Asexuality is a queer sexual orientation because people who hate asexuals say they’re not really queer. Atheist is not a religion because people who hate atheists say they’re a religion.
