In response to posts arguing that non-Native Americans shouldn’t write wendigos

Until Dawn: “A wendigo is a possessing spirit associated with cannibalism.” It’s well-written and fits the story.

Ducktales: “A wendigo is a person utterly consumed by desire and loneliness.” It’s well-written and fits the story.

Arknights: “A wendigo is a member of an ethnic group who look kinda skeletal, have a tradition of funerary cannibalism, and have been horribly discriminated against.” It’s well-written and fits the story.

I’ve never written a wendigo, and I have no particular interest in doing so. But I don’t think any of these writers did anything immoral or destructive. I saw an actual fucking post arguing that writing about wendigos contributes to Native Americans not having their human rights respected, and I refuse to believe Arknights is responsible for abuse by cops.
