A dream I had

There's five of them, standing by the old tree on the hill, getting ready to hang the stranger.

Ricardo's slinging the rope over the branch. During the war, the Council trained him to assassinate enemy VIPs. When he gets drunk, sometimes his lips get a little too loose, and he admits to me that he's tired of shedding blood. But the Council paid well for his son's schooling, with the implicit threat that they have full control over whatever happens to the boy. As much as I endorse utilitarianism, I recognize that it can be used to justify wicked things. I used to think the only ethical philosophy that couldn’t/wouldn’t be used that way was ethics of care.

One day, someone on Tumblr told me that governments have an ethical responsibility to spend their tax money caring for the people they tax. Therefore, it’s immoral for governments to help refugees. In retrospect, that was the day my innocence died.

 I just read a post about how if you wouldn’t reblog from white supremacists, you shouldn’t reblog from TERFs, because they both spread hatred and violence, and you’re normalizing it. The person who posted this regularly reblogs from people who post about how they want to guillotine my mother. One of them made a post about how not to get caught if you set someone’s house on fire.
