I have never forgotten that one idiot who claimed gay people know not to trust you if you like Rocky Horror. It’s not about helping gay people in any way, it’s about stomping on folks who like Rocky Horror.

(See also: “it’s bad to ship Yang/Blake because two people who were traumatized by the same abuser will inevitably retraumatize each other.” It’s not just dumb, it shows how dumb every other ship war is.)

Thinking about HBD posts

My objection to the HBD posts is later than the usual arguments. People go “some groups evolved to be more intelligent on average than other groups,” and I go “okay, whatever.” Then they go “therefore, some skin colors make you smarter than other skin colors,” and I go “wait, what?” Some ethnic groups evolved lactose tolerance, and other ethnic groups with the same skin color didn’t. Maybe some ethnic groups evolved better aptitude for certain mental tasks, but you can’t just assume everyone else with the same skin color did.

(no subject)

The fact of the matter is that I’ve never been attached to any story as much as some people are attached to Harry Potter. Or Star Wars, or Star Trek, or anything. I love Arknights, but if the devs came under new management and the game suddenly started propagandizing for Uyghur genocide, I’d go “what the fuck” and stop reading anything Arknights-related. There are probably people who would still try to salvage the setting and create something in the original Arknights spirit, but I just don’t care enough for that. So I don’t judge people who’re still trying to salvage something positive in Harry Potter, because I don’t want to judge what I don’t understand.

With all that said . . .

I read a review by someone who actually played the new Harry Potter game. It’s got the usual thing where the bad guys want rights but “go too far,” and by stopping them, you’re hopefully allowing for better, less violent change. Thing is, this takes place in 1890. Goblins are still discriminated against in the modern-era books. Stopping the people who think they can make things better takes on a lot more weight when things didn’t get better.
