I don’t know if this is a blind spot or what, but I’m so used to conflicts where one side could back off with no negative consequences, I have a hard time believing in any other kind of conflict. Sure, there are people who say they’ll suffer if gay marriage is legal, but there’s no clear chain of logic to how that would happen. I tend to take it for granted that there exists at least one solution that benefits everyone, and that this solution involves one side realizing that it won’t be any less happy if it stops persecuting the other side.

Sometimes I want to write a strongly worded letter to the universe, complaining that I’m not a cute lamia. But with all my freckles, at least I can be a cute cheetah.
