I don’t think it matters whether Musk intended to do “you have my heart” or intended to do a Nazi salute. If it was a mistake, it was the kind of mistake I would grovel for. What matters now is a): how much of an apology will Musk give, and b): if he doesn’t give a decent apology, will people blow this off, or will they treat it as a huge deal?

So much of my worldview is just “I don’t believe this group of people is the pure cackling evil you imagine.” And obviously this includes “I don’t believe Jews are pure cackling evil” and “I don’t believe gay people are pure cackling evil,” but it’s also “I don’t believe rich people are pure cackling evil,” “I don’t believe teachers are pure cackling evil,” “I don’t believe people with Narcissistic Personality Disorder are pure cackling evil,” etc. etc. etc. You need to at least attempt to understand why people do things, or you’ll end up doing the kinds of things that make people assume you must be pure cackling evil.

I’ve seen posts about how angry Israelis are about the Palestinian genocide, but they’re often from the negative framing of “people are being bigoted by not recognizing this.” I like the positive framing of “let’s recognize this.” It’s a good thing that Israelis are willing to risk arrest in order to protest.

Trying to determine if this person talking about social control by “bankers” means to say “rich people” or means to say “Jews.”

One person is arguing that Dracula is an offensive stand-in for immigrants and Jews. Other people are mad, because they say Dracula is a stand-in for aristocrats.

Dracula was prior to The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, but “the ethnic groups I don’t like already have too much money and power and still want more” is a pretty old trope. So Dracula can easily be all of those at once.
