I get why a lot of these characters are shipped with each other. But I really, really get why Ren is shipped with Rika.
(Warning: depiction of suicide attempts.)

“if i told this guy to kill himself (the most rational response possible to this kind of content)”

What does “rational” mean on your planet?

While we’re talking about things that might or might not be true: a common suicidal fantasy is “after I kill myself, all the people who hurt me will feel sorry!” A common rejoinder is “they won’t give a shit that you’re gone, so killing yourself won’t achieve anything.” But will they give a shit that you’re gone? This seems like something with an objective answer, at least in individual cases.

Yes, I agree with your pro-nuclear post, but saying anti-nuclear activists should kill themselves is a bit much.

Reading an essay about some manga I’ve never heard of called I Sold My Life For 10,000 Yen Per Year. Essayist thinks it’s supposed to be straightforwardly romantic, and hates it because the romance is a fucked-up mess. And I’m like, “I can’t really trust that this stuff about mutual suicide wasn’t supposed to be fucked-up, but at the same time, it sounds so unpleasant I don’t want to read it myself just to figure out whether you have reading comprehension or not.” I have a lot of experiences like that—I’m not sure you’re representing the story right, but you’re the one who read it and I’m not, and WOW I do not want anywhere near it.

One of Ang’s harassers lost . . . Some kind of job? I’m not clear on the details, and I don’t want to name him or drag him into this further. Anyway, people are now arguing back and forth about whether he’s the victim or Ang’s the victim, and it reminds me way too much of when people argued whether Zoe Quinn or her ex was the victim, as if that fucking mattered to people other than Quinn and her ex. All of this stuff should be individual people yelling at each other, not thousands of people choosing sides!

I started thinking about whether I’d be willing to say “stop trying to get people fired for racist Twitter posts” or “stop trying to get people fired for attending political rallies,” and honestly, I’d say yes. I don’t trust you all to even identify the right person.

Society: “You should kill yourself unless you’re useful.”

1000 IQ poster: “It’s innate and natural that people are unhappy unless they can find a way to be useful.”

It’s important to stop people from playing the Harry Potter game.

Don’t question how much impact a player actually has. It’s too important for that.

Don’t question whether suicide baiting Twitch streamers will help anything. It’s too important for that.

Why are you arguing? Don’t you recognize how important it is? You must be one of the bad guys. That makes it important to stop you.

Sometimes I feel like the only one who remembers how important it was to tell that one fanartist to kill herself for drawing Rose Quartz too thin.

Two episodes into Extraordinary Attorney Woo: Woo is the living incarnation of this hat.

Hat says "Please be patient. I have autism."

Three episodes into Extraordinary Attorney Woo: Woo is subjected to so much anti-autistic bigotry that she tries to kill herself. Holy fuck, that got dark.

I was thinking about those news articles where a trans woman dies and the article calls her a man. I got to thinking if I’d ever seen an article call a trans man a woman. Then I realized I’d never seen an article about a dead trans man.

Since a lot of the articles are about suicide, I checked suicide rates. Multiple studies report more attempts among trans men, but I can’t find how often the attempts are successful.

I have multiple complaints about the ending of Little Hope, but the biggest one is that only one choice I made across the entire game really mattered.

My standards for “characters who are basically good guys, in the grand scheme of things” are probably a lot lower than yours.

There’s this one guy in ID: Invaded who’s obsessed with numbers, to the point he put a drill bit through his brain to try and cure himself. Not only did it work, he thinks it elevated him to a higher state of consciousness. He keeps kidnapping people and drilling their brains to awaken them, but everyone he tries it on dies, even though he doesn’t consciously mean to kill them.

There’s this machine that can track the psychic energies emitted when people try to kill each other or themselves, except the machine can only be used by serial killers. (Yeah, it doesn’t make a lot of sense in context, either.) Drill guy kidnaps a female detective who’s been working with a vigilante/serial killer to try to track him down and stop the deaths. He’s incredibly disturbed to realize that he qualifies as a murderer for the machine’s purposes--did he subconsciously intend to kill those people rather than liberate them? But the machine is still having trouble tracking him, so the detective rams her head into his drill bit so the machine will get more information from tracking her suicide attempt. She survives, drill guy is arrested, and he repents and says he needs to let people discover their own head holes, rather than try to force it on them.

Drill guy qualifies as a serial killer, so he can use the machine. Detective girl turns out to take a little too much pleasure in times when negotiation breaks down and she can shoot a criminal, so she qualifies to use the machine as well. They’re colleagues, and it’s implied they fall in love with each other for changing each other’s lives. And in their own weird way, they’re kind of wholesome together? Yeah, everything about this sounds messed up when you describe it, but they feel like they’re the “good guys” compared to their targets.

(Side note: I like to refer to the detective with a hole in her head as Amelia Watson.)
