Trumpist posting about “350K missing children at the border.” I don’t think I should engage with this one, but I’m curious about the math here. How many children are they defining as “at the border”? If 350K are missing, are any of them left?

I should respond to more political strategy with “I don’t know that, and neither do you.” Like that person who said the Democrats would win more elections if they called transphobes “weird.” I argued with that on linguistic grounds—if transphobes are this common, they’re the normies—but thinking about it on strategic grounds, I have no way to tell whether calling transphobes “weird” would help or not. And you don’t know that either, unless you’ve been doing opinion surveys. You’re just stating something that feels to you like it should be right, and things that feel right may or may not be right.

People say that conservatives don’t care whether their arguments are true, but that guy on my dash who says open borders are like slavery seems to care if people agree with him. He’s behaving as if it matters whether or not people believe his stupid arguments, despite giving the sort of ridiculous conservative arguments non-conservatives normally say you’re not expected to believe.

vaguely remember an essay about a Vietnam war movie. The film depicts various atrocities like shooting children from a helicopter, but generally adopts an attitude of “Eh, what can you do?” There’s no mention of real-life groups like VVAW that tried to do something, and no indication that maybe we could not do war crimes.

I think this essay was older than the phrase “shooting and crying,” but it sums up the actual problem.

It seems to be a right-wing thing to say something offensive and go “Don’t cancel me, I’m just thinking! All I’m doing is thinking!” Left-wingers go “Don’t cancel me, I’m right!” Or sometimes “Don’t cancel me, I didn’t fucking say that!”

From someone else’s post:

“ngl kinda sick of movies and shit keep on making tech based bad guys poc when like the most majorty if tech guys irl stealing your data are fucking white people”

I’m trying to think through how true this is. Does Ajit V. Pai count as a tech guy? Did Vivek Ramaswamy ever try to steal your data? Is there an evil tech POC who isn’t a Brahmin?

"From drugmakers to doctors’ organizations, groups thought to have the clout to steer policy and funding in Washington because they enjoyed bipartisan support and huge lobbying budgets have remained silent about Kennedy. They haven’t spoken up even though he has accused them of fraud and conspiracy, and promised to hold them accountable.

"That’s not because they aren’t worried, but because they didn’t think they could stop him — or think the cost of speaking out would be too steep, five people representing health groups, granted anonymity to speak candidly, said. By staying mum, they hope to limit the fallout if Kennedy follows through on his plans to strip the industry to the studs."

One of my brothers works for a law firm, suing pharmaceutical companies for overcharging patients. The Department of Justice offered him a job doing basically the same thing with government backing. Then the new administration came in, and suddenly the DoJ didn’t need his services anymore.

He’s still working for his old company. I hope they get some of the customers who’re no longer getting government help thanks to the chickenshit-in-chief.

Out of all the takes I’ve seen about the mentally ill cop game, the most against-the-grain is that it likes cops. Nobody agrees with this person, and they are so mad at the rest of the fandom for being “illiterate.”

A realization: if I’m a leftist lamia, my evil counterpart would be a MAGA naga.

I wouldn’t say I want IP abolition, if only because there would immediately be pressure to bring IP back. But I feel like IP abolition would be better than the IP situation we have now.

Because they’re happy someone shot an insurance CEO, people are now celebrating someone who made death threats to a person who answers the phone at an insurance company. I told you fuckers you have no target recognition.

There were three women in the antepartum unit whose amniotic sacs had ruptured before the fetuses were viable, she told me. Their babies had little chance of surviving, and elsewhere the women would have been given the option to terminate their pregnancies. “I can’t do that in this state,” Kornberg said. Instead, the women were all told, “We’re going to give you these medications, to give the baby the best chance, though it may not survive.” The reality, Kornberg added, was even bleaker: “You have a baby that’s probably not going to survive, and we’re going to keep you here. And you’re going to sit alone in this room for three, four months, and maybe you’ll die of sepsis.”

People keep saying “Republicans do a gazillion batshit things at once to overwhelm you.” I think Republicans just have a gazillion batshit things they want to do.

A post going around: Harris will “let Palestinian children burn to death” to get more votes, but Trump is even worse. Responses: OP is a “Hitlerite” who supports genocide. I don’t think “supports” is the right word here.

Games made by a lot of people tend to have sprawling, unfocused themes, but Metaphor really lasers in on the different types of bad politicians and why it’s important to never elect them:

Racial supremacist with a military fetish

Two different religious conservatives

Anti-tax libertarian who’s never heard of economics

Useful idiot

Just mimics whatever a more popular candidate says

Wants to kill the rich, but is more likely to kill the rich’s servants

Very concerned about the moral failings of young people these days

Thinks he can just buy the election

Only in it to promote her business

Ecofascist

Racial minority candidate who’s genuinely good, but the political machine is built to keep him from ever getting elected

And looming over all of it, the incredibly popular guy who keeps saying he’ll help the poor and stamp out the oppressors, while obviously being an oppressor who gets poor people killed.

I think this person recognized that the people they were working with were full of shit, then joined people who were full of shit but less organized about it.

A parallel:

There are people who support Land Back. There are also people who don’t actually want to give land back, but seem to think the Land Back people are saying the same thing as them.

There are people who say there are no thought crimes. There are also people who say there are no thought crimes except for this one thought that’s evil to have, but seem to think the people who said “no thought crimes” agree with them and just forgot to mention the evil thought.

Ethics training for my job:

“Part 760 of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) implements the EAA’s anti-boycott provisions. U.S. persons are prohibited from taking certain actions with the intent to comply with, further, or support an unsolicited foreign boycott. Prohibitions include:

“Refusing to do business with a boycotted or blacklisted entity.”

What kind of coercive bullshit is this?
