I know there are plenty of differences between the 1700s and today, but I don’t know what’s the relevant difference in political violence. I have no idea how to explain how the factors in one time and place lead to “we’ll fight back against our oppressors by overthrowing the powerful,” while the factors in another time and place lead to “we’ll fight back against ‘our oppressors’ by doxxing trans women.” Maybe I’m underestimating the degree to which “force Jeff Bezos out of power” is an actual movement. And presumably it’s less effective to force Bezos out of power when the company can just hire a replacement rather than having to breed one with other royals. Maybe I should look at Afghanistan as successful political violence from the point of view of the Taliban, I dunno!
