Just read a body horror story about people turning into giant brains. Kinda missed me, because I’m not really scared of turning into a giant brain? I feel like it’s just another body type.

The whole story is blatantly queer and written for people to whom trans bodies are just more body types.

Apparently, I’m queerer than queer. I choose to count this as a win.

Scrapyard Station: Homeworlds

A few of the things different races call their homeworlds, translated into English:

Builders: Built from Nothing. It comes from a creation myth.

Riders: Grass Home. Originally the term for the plains they lived in.

Stewards: Treasured Gift. This is another mythological one.

Nomads: There are a lot of loose translations, like Stone, Solid, and Sharp-Edged. Before they made it off-world, this was their name for our plane of reality as a whole. By contrast, their name for hyperspace can be translated as Cloud or Empty.

Scholars: Larva Nest. Since all sapient Scholars are reborn from other races, they don’t really think of it as “their” world, and they refer to it matter-of-factly. A Builder-turned-Scholar would think of their homeworld as Built from Nothing, and so on.

Scrappers: Unity. The name was coined by the Scrappers’ first representative in the Interplanetary Coalition. None of the Scrappers’ languages are spoken by more than 50% of the planet, so there was no agreed-upon name before that.

Winnowers: Where We All Live. Winnowers aren’t known for their sentimentality.
