Reading a book called The Phantom of the Lop Ear. A pirate tells the protagonist that pirates are brave and free, and the average person is a coward who bends the knee to kings. The protagonist argues it’s a lack of perception, not bravery. When disobeying the king will get you punished, you need to look carefully for opportunities to fight back, and you may not see your chance until it’s too late and you have to keep obeying.

The pirate captain is a shitty leader who readily punishes her crew. The protagonist quietly wonders why people follow her.
