Thinking about the author’s notes on an incest story. The author said he was never into his family like that, but he based the characters on them because he didn’t know any other families well enough to write them. So he took the opportunity to add something for himself, too, by writing a version of his mother who was successful in her goals and wasn’t held back by sexism. I’m not sure if I should find that heartwarming or not.
