feotakahariYou know when you’re thinking about a story you read, and you suddenly get something? I just had that for a story I wrote. (It’s called Hate, and it’s bodymod porn on Literotica.com.)
In the end, I thought of having Per (the narrator) give Par a ring as a symbolic marriage. But something told me to have Per keep the ring and promise to find Par another one. It was a weird choice, and I went back and forth on it, but it felt important.
Par’s defining characteristic is that he makes choices for other people rather than letting them choose on their own. When Per chooses her own wedding ring rather than letting Par search for one, she’s making a choice Par would normally make on his own! Per promises to hate Par forever, but she adopts Par’s methods and mindset even as she opposes him. They’re tied together as mirror images.
I’m very proud of Hate, and I love that even I didn’t figure out everything I was doing.
