Sometimes it dizzies me how many different stories are the 800-pound gorilla in different social spheres. In my crowd, the big thing is a superhero story called Worm. If you interact with anyone here, you have at least heard of Worm. Then you go to any other social group, and you mention Worm, and they have no idea what you're talking about. Conversely, I once went to a site where everyone was talking about a zombie comic called Shootaround, and if you were reading anything there, you were reading Shootaround, and I had never, ever heard of this. Sometimes the gorilla is Penny Arcade, or Planescape Torment, or for that matter, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (which is more of a blue whale.) But there's always somewhere you could go where everyone would be like "what are you even talking about?"

Date: 2020-07-17 11:50 pm (UTC)Planescape Torment is a video game based on Dungeons and Dragons. I haven’t played it either, but it’s known for being very, very talky, and for giving you a ridiculous amount of options. (There is unique dialogue for pretending you don’t speak a language you actually do speak, asking your party member to translate for you, and then calling him out when he translates wrong on purpose.)
