It’s time to admit I don’t like Tales games

They’re in the same category as Compile Heart, where I keep thinking I’m going to like this one, and I get let down every time. Even setting aside the clunky combat, the only ones where I was interested in the story and characters were Innocence and Hearts, and Innocence was just stupidly grindy. (I didn’t even like Symphonia, and that one’s supposed to be a classic.)

What got me through a lot of Innocence was that I really liked playing the ranged attacker. Then in Abyss and Hearts and Vesperia, the ranged character is super clunky and hard to play. (And then you have Berseria, where I got KOed within seconds if I tried to use anyone other than Velvet, except Velvet also has terrible magic resistance, so magic-heavy bossfights were a nightmare and a half.)

I did like the combat in Innocence. Apparently so did the devs, since it was the only Tales game I've ever played that had multiplayer versus.
