Some side content. This is still from Shannon’s perspective.

Necromancers are more common than you’d think. They have to be, since they die so quickly.

Some necromancers command their zombies from the front. It’s more efficient, after all. Directly controlled zombies are faster, more lethal, and better at working together. In sufficient numbers, they’ll even form a wall against attacks from the ground. Then someone on a rooftop shoots the necromancer in the head, and all those zombies become walking targets.

Other necromancers hide in their lairs. They don’t need to kill people themselves. That’s what zombies are for. Slow, weak zombies that take multiple casualties for every person they kill. Sufficiently coordinated resistance can clear out every zombie in the area, and then the necromancer’s just one idiot with a few magic tricks.

The strongest necromancers are the ones with defensive powers. Bullets bounce off their skin, or stop moving in midair. They command from the front without worrying about attackers. But it’s rare for someone like that to become a necromancer in the first place. When the weaker necromancers are dead, their killers gang up to handle the few strong ones.

So why would anyone become a necromancer in the first place? Sometimes they’re simply foolhardy. “All those other weaklings died, but I’m stronger and smarter. I won’t make the same mistakes they did.”

More often, they don’t care if they die, so long as they get to take as many people as possible down with them.
