I’m playing a JRPG. So far, the female lead has physically beaten the male lead, thrown boiling hot water on him, claimed sole control over his finances, and tried to “toughen him up” by forcing him well past his physical limits. I’m fairly certain she’s supposed to be his love interest. Sometimes I hate JRPGs so goddamn much. 

Edit: proceeding further, it’s going for a different setup than I expected. Rather than “she assaults him because she loves him,” it’s “everyone assaults him because he keeps pressing their buttons in every way possible.” He’s been beaten up for everything from stuffing bug-flavored candy in someone’s mouth to implying that a girl is sexually attracted to her brother. I feel like I’m playing as Minoru Mineta.
