A thought on The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock

We know that Prufrock has loved women. We’re fairly certain he loves the current listener. But are we sure the current listener is a woman? Maybe there’s more to why Prufrock fears that saying how he feels would “disturb the universe.”

A thing I see a lot on libertarian blogs: compare the situation that currently exists with a situation where exactly one thing is changed. Ask which you’d prefer. If you’d prefer the situation where nothing is changed, then it must be better to change nothing than to change anything. The possibility of changing a different thing, or changing more than one thing, is not treated as relevant.
