The U.S. release took out all the monsters that looked like little girls, and I was incensed, but not because I particularly wanted little girl monsters. I was just mad they weren't replaced with anything. Medium effort would be to come up with new card art. High effort would be to create US-exclusive monsters as a counterpart to the Japan-exclusive monsters. Either would be a lot cooler than just cutting things out and calling it a day.
This is my thought process on most of the stuff that gets taken out. Like when Bravely Default decided the Native American class was too offensive for Americans, so we got a cowboy class instead. That's cool! Just leaving a Native American-shaped hole in the roster wouldn't have been as fun.
(I don't really care about cutting or modifying visual stuff, as long as the story and characters are maintained. Put up an image of crying koalas, like they did in the South Park game when that got censored in Australia.)
