I can't even remember where this originally came from, but at a young age, I must have somehow been exposed to the misogynist thing where women they don't like are portrayed as "frigid." But the way I read this archetype was "someone who's really bad at opening up and expressing their feelings." I got frustrated with the men in these stories for dismissing the women without making an effort to understand their viewpoint. So I guess I independently invented the tsundere?

I feel like there’s a difference between silly and irony poisoned, but the line can be blurry.

Ace Attorney takes place in a world that’s incredibly silly to the player. But to the characters, it’s the only world they know. When someone suffers or dies, they treat it seriously, and I can empathize with them and treat it seriously as well.

Crossing Souls is irony poisoned. It has no idea when to stop making light of the situation. It can have a child slowly die of a gunshot wound, then finish off with a joke. I hated that game.

South Park: The Stick of Truth is pretty irony poisoned, but there’s just enough sincerity to it that I personally liked it. Shrek is just slightly too irony-poisoned for me, even though there were scenes I thought were good. I don’t even know how to classify The Order of the Stick. It’s subjective to some degree, and other people can love Shrek or think Stick of Truth is intolerable.

Wintermoor Tactics Club is just slightly more ironic than I normally accept. But it has so many good one-liners that I’ll give it a pass.

Edit: looking back on this post. Did I really just say Stick of Truth is LESS irony poisoned than some other games? I feel like that's true in comparison, but yeesh, if some games are less sincere and serious than Stick of Truth . . .
