I picked up the whiny coward who thinks she’s going to die every time a shot hits her. She’s too good a healer to put aside, even if she’s irritating. That means I’d get less use out of the little Japanese robot girl with the stupidly big gun, even though she’s funny, because they both use the same ammo. Both the mentally ill arena brawler and the movie star use the same weapons I built my character around, so they’re ruled out as well.

The character who would synergize best with my build is the one who loses approval every time I refuse to kill people. Alternatively, I could pick up the sanctimonious prick who loses approval whenever I trespass to complete a quest. I hate not knowing in advance which builds are already filled by the cool companions.

(In retrospect, I should have built a psychic. There are a couple of characters who use psychic attacks, but none of them really specialize in it.)

What recent* fiction does the average middle-aged American know exists? The only show I’ve ever heard my coworkers discuss is Game of Thrones, and they’ve never said anything about a book, a movie, or a video game. Like, are average people gushing over Succession the way Tumblr users do, or are they unaware of its existence? Did average people read any recent fiction books? Do average people know any game that isn’t a long-running series like Mario?

My guess is that a lot of it’s gonna be “my kid watched it, and I was either in the room or obligated to take them to the theater.” Which has the alarming implication that average Americans asked what their kid was watching on Youtube and learned who Dream is.

*Excluding both reboots of things from when they were kids, and things that have been running continuously since they were kids.

”Jreg blew up upon the release of the "Political Compass Rap", which led to the invention of the satirical ideology Anti-Centrism, which advocates for political extremists of all kinds joining forces to kill all centrists and political moderates. This concept has been turned into a full-on webseries called Centricide, in which a Nazi, an authoritarian communist, an anarcho-communist and an anarcho-capitalist are assembled by Jreg to fight a league of centrists and moderates.”

Of course the Nazi unknowingly had a Jewish parent. Of course.
