feotakahariWhat recent* fiction does the average middle-aged American know exists? The only show I’ve ever heard my coworkers discuss is Game of Thrones, and they’ve never said anything about a book, a movie, or a video game. Like, are average people gushing over Succession the way Tumblr users do, or are they unaware of its existence? Did average people read any recent fiction books? Do average people know any game that isn’t a long-running series like Mario?
My guess is that a lot of it’s gonna be “my kid watched it, and I was either in the room or obligated to take them to the theater.” Which has the alarming implication that average Americans asked what their kid was watching on Youtube and learned who Dream is.
*Excluding both reboots of things from when they were kids, and things that have been running continuously since they were kids.
