Money can be exchanged for goods and services, but not everything can be exchanged for money. If you give someone your money for something you expect to go up in value, they now have money they can exchange for goods and services, and you do not.

True, it’s possible you’ll be able to exchange the thing for money. It’s also possible nobody will want it and you’d have achieved the same thing by buying a shiny rock. At the very least, one person thought it was time to get rid of the damn thing and take your money instead.

(Of course, if your country’s currency craters so badly that nobody wants it, you might be better off with goods that can be exchanged for some other country’s currency.)

So if I’m understanding this right from the reviews, the plot of Strangers of Paradise is

“An evil force has trapped the protagonists in a cliched narrative!”

and most of the reviewers are taking it as

“A terrible writer has trapped this reviewer in a cliched narrative!”

I want to be sympathetic towards the devs for the misunderstanding of their vision, but Redshirts also did the “trapped in a cliched narrative” thing, and it was intolerable.

I loved a girl named Emily when we were six. It annoyed me when adults called it “puppy love.” I felt like they were saying it wasn’t real love, and at the very least, it was a real emotion.

I’m almost thirty now, and I’ve never felt quite the same way towards anyone else that I felt towards Emily. So those adults can suck eggs.
