Scrapyard Station: Notes on Nomads
Aug. 2nd, 2022 10:40 pmNomads don’t exactly have fur. They have floof, ranging in color from light blue to dark purple to reddish-orange. It’s thin, soft, and just long enough to run your fingers through. You know a Nomad likes you if they let you touch their floof.
Nomads use hyperspace for hunting and playing pranks, but they don’t really hang out there. As best they can explain it, most forms of sapient interaction don’t really work in hyperspace. (You can pass someone a note to read later, though.)
If a Nomad really wants to get into a building, there’s no good way to keep them out. Conversely, you can’t meaningfully imprison a Nomad with anything less than an isolated prison colony. Nomad law can seem draconian by human standards, because they struggle to deal with repeat offenders.
A minority of Nomads only have functional male parts or female parts, rather than both. In the long run, they’ll probably evolve multiple sexes like most other sapients. Sad, isn’t it?
Nomads eat most parts of their prey/farm animals, including organ meats. Their equivalent of a piñata typically has fake organs to rip apart and chew through.
Nomads on their hind legs naturally have a hunched posture, so it’s only on four legs that you can appreciate how incredibly long they are.
Nomads are widespread and have a lot of different religions, but the most common is ancestor worship. This has led to some syncretism with Builders, who also commonly practice ancestor worship.
