I feel like my experience as a reader is closer to Makoto's experience as a POV character than the writers intended. Makoto doesn't know things a modern Japanese person would know, so the story introduces things he's confused by, with the expectation that the reader will understand what he misses. But I'm not a modern Japanese person either, so sometimes I'm just as confused.

My boss finds it strange that I can remember project numbers, but not project names. To me, it seems natural. Project 611314 has only ten possibilities for each digit, so it's easier to keep the wrong possibilities out of my head. PG&E IPE6 has so many possibilities that I could easily end up calling it PG&E IPE7 or PG&E IGE6. Since I just invoice the projects and don't actually work on them, I have relatively little idea what an IPE6 even is or what makes it different from some other IPE number.

Unapproved comment I made on a leftist article:

“Radical change” that purges the people involved in systemic violence because they can’t be redeemed is the same kind of thing Ron DeSantis advocates when he talks about “slitting throats.”

I don’t trust the latest post going around about how autistic brains work. It feels kinda “Indigo Children” lite. But “thinking from the bottom up” is definitely how my brain works. Or as I put it, “the forest is the trees.” To understand the forest, you need to understand that this tree is unusually tall, and that tree grew crooked. At the very least, you need to know enough to exclude them from your dataset so you don’t end up with Trees Georg.

Amatsutsumi told a complete and compelling story, and I thought it had ended, and then it rolled the fucking opening credits.
