Aug. 14th, 2023 03:49 pmI might have been unfair to T.S. Eliot. I interpreted him as being pretentious in the Shakespearean Rag part of The Waste Land. Shakespeare is Good Art, the Shakespearean Rag is Bad Art, and the latter is replacing and overwriting the former as part of the downfall of society. But I read some other interpretations of that part, and different people had different takes on what Eliot actually meant. E.g. the husband can’t concentrate because he doesn’t really love his wife.
