I’m reading The Divine Cities
Jul. 24th, 2024 06:33 amThis probably isn’t the take I’m supposed to have, but my main feeling from this setting’s backstory is “what a waste.” More than any other setting I’ve read, the gods in this setting feel special. They don’t just feel like really powerful wizards—they feel like something strange and wonderful, almost beyond imagination. And so much of what they did was good, but their followers degraded them so far that killing them ended up being a net positive. The wisest goddess was the one who abandoned her followers when they started warring in her name, because she was the only one who recognized what having personal cults was doing to the gods.
