Interesting video about why Street Fighter III was a financial failure at a time when fighting games were expected to be rapid-paced visual spectacles. There’s a dev quote at the end about how Street Fighter III was supposed to have “unanswerables,” which basically means you weren’t supposed to be able to flowchart it.


Ideally, you were supposed to look at how the opponent fought and counter that, not just apply the one tactic that would always be best for your current situation.
I’m curious how that played out, as players got more familiar with the game. Did they eventually reach a point where they could flowchart it, or did the devs win in the end?
