The real killer is a fascinating idea.
The author’s initial intent was to string the story out without ever revealing the killer’s identity. As far as the author was concerned, there was no “real killer.” But someone needed to kill the male lead’s family, so the narrative provided. The killer’s face is a burst of static, and his motivation is simply to follow the story. He’ll continue to kill anyone the male lead loves, until the male lead finally ends the story by fighting him to the death.
