I remember when I was twelve or so and Second Life was new and exciting. I read a newspaper article that talked about the communities there, and it had a single sentence about “furries,” people who used nonhuman avatars. I remember thinking it was interesting to choose not to represent yourself as a person at all, and if I ever used something like Second Life, I’d be a furry.
