People say that top/bottom discourse on Tumblr is a way of reinventing gender roles without reference to gender. Myself, I think it’s a way of reinventing Omegaverse and applying it to real life. There’s a recurrent conflation of “is sexually aroused by dominating people” and “is actually any good at dominating people” that completely ignores the existence of incels. (This is why everyone on Tumblr who cares about top/bottom identifies as a bottom.)
