I think the popular conception of and attitude towards “the fatty” has a lot in common with “the addict.” People turn disgust into moral outrage, and want you to cease to exist, or at least exist somewhere they can’t see you.

People who like to hurt other people are often in a constant search for victims currently considered acceptable to attack. Someone's always on the bottom of the dogpile.
