I’ve read before about how it’s prestigious to write a lot of scientific papers, so some scientists plagiarize, use A.I., or pay someone else to write papers under their name. Something I just learned: letters to the editor of a scientific journal can be counted in the same metrics as actual scientific papers. Since you don’t need any new data to write them, this means you can flood the literature with A.I.-written letters.
