Shout out to the Charlie Bone series for the best explanation I’ve seen of where evil wizards come from. They’re not (exclusively) an ideology, they’re not a bloodline, and they don’t use “dark magic.“ They’re any random wizard who decides to use their power to take what they want. That’s why there will always be evil wizards even in the “good” families, because viewed over enough generations, any family will have bad people in it. Conversely, if a wizard bloodline devotes itself to blood superiority or whatnot, someone will always pop up who thinks hurting people is bad. So they clash, on and on down the centuries.
