Seriously. I’ve seen how purity ethics works in anti-fanfic. If you say the word “pedo,” you win, so the only challenge is to create a situation where you can say the word “pedo.” The word itself is considered so disgusting as to override any other concerns. I think anti-vaxxers might be doing something similar with phrases like “brain damage.” I mean, notwithstanding that the scientific consensus is that vaccinations don’t cause brain damage, I’d much rather be autistic than dead of measles. But for anti-vaxxers, once they can say “brain damage,” it’s like they already won.
