Seriously, this ABO series The Alpha God is surprisingly compelling. In alien society, male Alphas and female Omegas are by far the most common, female Alphas are often killed at birth, and horrific sexism is the norm. Then a female Alpha manages to ascend the throne, and things are slowly changing for the better, but there’s enough backlash that she’s still at serious risk of a civil war. And then you add human colonists to the mix, and the aliens have wildly divergent reactions to these “Betas” whose society has largely abandoned sexism. (The two species are similar enough to interbreed, but the last emperor had an official policy of murdering “hybrids,” and there are still people who will discreetly pay out bounties for killing them.) And that’s not even getting into all the worldbuilding on why humans are refugees in the first place, and why the aliens are at risk of the same fate.

Two complaints: the humans really lean into the “good American, evil Russian” trope, and there hasn’t been any mention yet of humans who’re trans, even though they’d absolutely blow the aliens’ minds.
