When I was a kid, I read this book called The Love Bombers about a woman who joins a cult. On the one hand, the cult leader is clearly using these people to gather charitable donations, which he skims from to enrich himself while his followers live under a vow of poverty. On the other hand, the cultists are all happy working together to get donations, which they think will feed homeless people in their community. So the main thing I got out of it was that the cultists should unionize.
