I guess what I’m pushing at is that all the anti-capitalist stuff I see assumes the replacement for capitalism is closely linked tribal groups, and I tend to assume that the more linked people are, the more they’ll hate me for being different. I feel a lot safer in an environment where I’m valued for earning money, and will continue to be valued so long as the money comes in, than in an environment where the only thing protecting me is love, which can be conveniently discarded if someone doesn’t like that I’m queer.

WOW that’s so much more cynical and depressing than I thought I was capable of.

I think a default assumption in anti-capitalist content is that we're going to somehow get rid of "hating people for being different".

Sometimes it's because the person speaking is actively working on that. And sometimes it's because they think it'll just conveniently vanish alongside capitalism itself.

Huh. It's funny, I think you hit on why it was so important to ME to stay in the workforce, back till disability irrevocably took me down.

And I guess since then... I dunno, I'm trying to find a third option, one besides, "my worth is my $" and "my worth is based entirely on my ability to fit in the local demographics." Something stronger and more resilient that can hold up to how our life's been going; so far we've been calling it our "root system."

We seem to be making some strides, at least! Though I'm not sure I'd call it anticapitalist. (In part because I'm still not entirely clear what capitalism IS.)
